Kira and I have been together for over a year now. After my brother had his son Talon, I realized Kira and I never talked about whether or not we wanted to have kids. So, a few months ago I brought up the subject and somehow that conversation led us here. We've kept it a secret that we've decided to try for a family. Until now. Although, us moving into a bigger house might've been a clue. For the past month or so Kira and I have gone back and forth about who to choose as a surrogate and in the end we haven't been able to decide. Lately, he's been joking about asking Lykos which is insane. Lykos will skin him alive just for thinking that he'd ever bear another child. That man doesn't handle child birth well. We're at a standstill now with this decision and I'm half afraid that we're so far away from being on the same page with what type of person we want as a surrogate that it'll never happen for us. Maybe we should wait a few more years. I'm just not sure anymore. Sighing, I continue to mindlessly stir the spaghetti sauce distracting myself from my thoughts. Kira chooses that exact moment to walk in. He smiles and says, "Something smells good."
"I'm making spaghetti. It's almost done if you want to have a seat."
He sits at the table while I drain the pasta and pour it into a bowl with the sauce. Once that's done I place the spaghetti on the table with the bread and sit down.
We serve ourselves but before I can take a bite, Kira clears his throat and says, "I asked Lykos to be our surrogate."
My mouth drops open in shock. "You did what?! What did he say?!"
"Well first, he punched me in the face then he grabbed a pair of tongs and a frying pan from the kitchen and told me to drop my pants. I've never run away from someone so fast before in my life."
I bite my lip to contain my laughter. "I told you it was a bad idea."
He shrugs, "Well, I thought I'd try at least."
"Maybe we should wait."
His eyes widen. "Are you having second thoughts?"
"No but we can't seem to agree on one person so maybe we should wait."
Suddenly, he's standing behind my chair with his arms wrapped around me. "I don't like fighting with you so if you want to wait, we'll wait but I would love to have a mini version of you running around. I know I've been difficult lately but it's only because I want the person carrying our child to be someone we can trust. We can't pick someone on a whim. This person will be carrying a shifter and later on, a vampire. We can't pick someone who is going to expose us to the world."
"I know that. I just never expected it to be this hard."
He gasps like he just had the greatest idea and says, "Why don't we talk to the Doc about it? I'm sure he'll be able to point us in the right direction. We've been running with the idea that our surrogate needed to be human but a shifter will do the job the same way."
With a smile, I turn in my chair to place a kiss on his lips. "You're right. I'll call the Doc in the morning."
"Just wait and see, pretty soon we'll be parents."
"I can't wait."
Smiling he says, "I hope we have boys, I'm not sure I'd know what to do with a girl."
I laugh and say, "Me either but we'll cross that bridge when we get to it."
